Sea Kayaking

Monday, July 4, 2011
I'm not sure when or where the seed was planted, but I've had an insatiable urge to try sea kayaking. We decided to give it a whirl during my brothers visit.  We drove about an hour to the sleepy little town of Whittier, AK. A random, little known fact is that we went through North America's longest tunnel to get there :) The tunnel is only one way: traffic goes into town on the half hour and out of town on the hour. The tunnel closes at 10:30pm, so if you're there past then- you're stuck!

Here are some pictures from our trip!

Brother.

Boots, life jacket, kayak skirt-- check!

They gave us dry sacks for our stuff.

Kisses and Love before our "team building"

Jeffrey getting paddle lessons

Ross getting suited up.

Team Huebel.

Pretty waterfalls.

Someone is doing work and someone is NOT doing work.

Look at that clear, teal colored water...

The clouds started rolling in as we headed to our lunch spot.

The guide packed a nice spread for lunch. Gluten friendly options too :)

We stopped to see a waterfall... The noise from the cascading falls and the lush greenery made the stop well worth it!

Group shot. Undeterred by the afternoon rain showers!

I think we were all pretty sore after our 5+ hours of sea kayaking, mainly the traps and the deltoids. Kayaking is slow going and HARD WORK. I was trying to imagine Roma in a kayak and I couldn't, so we probably won't be buying a kayak anytime soon, but we sure did have a fun time trying it out!
