Rafting Six Mile came to mind... Six Mile Creek has 3 distinct Canyons, the first two are Class 3 and 4 whitewater rapids. The last Canyon is a Class 5.
I had some heartburn about Class 5 rapids, but Julia and Bobby said they were game. And I couldn't be the chicken.
So we drove an hour to the river, suited ourselves up in full body dry suits and helmets, then jumped in the water for a swimming test. The mild current wasn't all that mild, but it was probably because your hands lose circulation in the frigid water pretty fast.
They had a photographer strategically located along the banks taking pictures of us. Please notice Ross's face in pretty much every picture. Doesn't he resemble a Roman Gladiator about to go to war? Oar/sword, same thing...
Here's a zoomed in look of the same picture above, so you can get a closer look at our crew, rafting under the watchful eye of our guide, Herbie.
The scenery along the way was just beautiful. We had nice easy rafting in between each Canyon so that we could soak in the scenery: Lush mountains jetting out on either side of the creek, small waterfalls cascading down the mountains, wildflowers growing everywhere.
We treated ourselves to the best Yam fries ever at Jack Sprat in Girdwood on the way back!
