Luau!

Thursday, November 17, 2011
On my first trip to Hawaii, I was really looking forward to attending a LUAU! Now because we don't have any friends that live in Hawaii and spontaneously wanted to invite us over for a backyard family luau, we went to the Old Lahaina Luau to enjoy some hula dancing and a traditional Hawaiian feast (with a couple hundred of our closest friends)

The scenery was beautiful, right on the water near the harbor.

We got our own picture in THE " couples photo spot"

We were handed Mai Tai's and fresh hair flowers on our way in the door. Did you know married women are to wear the flower in the left ear, and single ladies the right?

Practicing my hula in case the dancers need backup.

They bury a pig in the ground and roast it all day for the evening feast. The pork was really good.

Roasted pig in the middle, and tea-leaf wrapped pork on either side.

HULA!!

If ever I can't be located, someone should check the Luau-- I most likely ran away to fulfill my Hula  girl dreams...

  1. Best Luau. Once again, five-time winner Old Lahaina Luau danced the hula past the other contenders. Guests relax under stately palms with views of boats and neighboring islands as a backdrop. Tiki torches light the way, thatched roofs take one back in time, and you may even sit on the ground on mats for traditional Luau dining. The Old Lahaina Lüÿau takes great pride in presenting an authentic evening of traditional Hawaiian food, music, dance and crafts. The evening reflects with taste and tradition the rich culture and history of the Hawaiian Islands.During our stay we enjoyed many Maui restaurants, but I have to say that the incredible variety of Hawaiian cuisine served at the Old Lahaina Luau topped any other meal on our vacation.
