My special grey one injured her pinky toe at the beginning of last winter (Sept 2011) and has been battling a nasty nail bed infection intermittently ever since. Tuesday she is having her toe amputated, to hopefully remedy the problem once and for all.
My first reaction to the vet's amputation suggestion was not so accepting, but I had some time to mull it over. The procedure should fully return her quality of life, which has been much dampened lately. Luckily, the pinky toe is not a "stability" toe, meaning her walk/run shouldn't be affected at all.
Poor baby girl.
