One Skillet Coq Au Vin

New recipe alert! This "One Skillet Coq Au Vin" is definitely a keeper so I wanted to share with you. It has a surprising depth of flavor for a dish this simple, but let's be honest bacon and wine give anything a boost. I'd highly recommend serving with a good quality crusty bread like ciabatta to sop up the liquid deliciousness. This is a perfect Sunday dinner type family meal. Enjoy!

Stop and Smell

 These Biltmore Garden pictures made me think of the saying "Stop and Smell the Roses".  Then I started thinking about what that actually means. The first internet hit said-

Stopping to smell the roses is an act of appreciation and recognizing the source of the goodness in our lives. It means taking time to recognize the daily moments that bring us joy and really seeing what causes that emotion.

Yes please. I sure hope like the 2 little girls we can all stop and smell the roses more often!

Biltmore Pt 1

It was definitely funny trying to explain the Biltmore to the girls. "It's a big house but no one lives there?" "why would we visit that?" "Wow- that house has so many layers"- Claire describing number of floors. 

It was a cool day in Ashville and we were glad we went before the rain kicked in. I highly recommend  bringing a picnic lunch to eat on the hill above the main grounds. However, we thought the Biltmore was too touristy and commercialized.  I fully recognize that a contributing factor of this lackluster review could be my 4 year old. ("what we doing here?", "where's the park?", "my legs soooo tired"). Guess I'll have to go back sometime in the future.

Claire Turns 7!

SEVEN years old?!

We had 5 of Claire's first grade buddies (+2 lil sis's) come over for an Arts and Crafts themed outdoor party. It was just what she wanted. And this girl loves birthdays, especially her own. 

My favorite sound bytes-

"Best party ever!"

"This party just keeps getting better and better"

"I think for my party I will invite all of the same people"

The story of the dishwasher

Once upon a time long long ago a [awesome] gal ordered a new dishwasher and waited and waited and waited. 8 months later it came in! Hello 3 drawers and super quietness. Thanks for the belated gift Bosch! On another note, I'm so good at buying things and Ross is so good at installing things- teamwork :)

So Cold it's Hot

 The girls are BEST buddies with our new neighbors (BFFs per Claire). They had their pool heated up at the start of the "Great Freeze of 2021" and the girls had a blast swimming while it was so cold outside.
