Hawaii Black Sand Beach

Monday, February 18, 2013
We drove to the North shore of the Big Island one day on our trip. It is relatively uninhabited because the waters are rough and the current isn't the kind you want to be swimming in. The guidebook told us about a "hidden gem" of a beach, with a hiking path down to a beautiful cove. Because we both like to hike, that sounded like a winner. However, when we got there we realized that the hidden gem was not so hidden anymore; there was a crowd of people in the parking lot. I guess they all had the same guidebook??

Most of the tourists just hung around at the top overlook, but weren't trying to do the hike. We watched a couple people try to hike in flip flops until they realized that that was a bad idea and turned around. So Ross and I had a nice hike and only encountered a few people on the trail.
